About Us
Who We Are
The Flames organization consists of The Atlanta Flames (our premier team) and the Atlanta Smoke (our Tier 2 team). Both teams compete in the VLA and aim to be competitive while spreading their love of volleyball with our local community. In addition, the Flames and Smoke are supported by a back office team with over 8 decades of combined Sports Management and volleyball coaching experience.
Our Admin Team
Our admin team is filled with volunteers who keep our teams focused on the court. Without these wonderful volunteers the Smoke and Flames would not be able to compete as often or at the level that we do.
Crystal Childs
President and Director of Coaching Operations
Crystal played D1 volleyball at Clemson and Radford, serving as team captain at both schools while earning her bachelor’s degree and MBA. She went on to play professionally overseas in Southern Europe, where she was named Rookie of the League. Now back in Georgia, Crystal is the founder of the Atlanta Flames and continues to play, create content, and support retired NFL players.
Kelley Becht, M.S.
VP of Operations & Treasurer
Kelley played volleyball at Troy University from 2011-2014 while getting her degree in Sports Management. She currently serves her community as the manager of Terrell Mill Tennis Center and the Northwest Atlanta Director for Volleyball Elite Academy. When she's not working with the Flames or on the court, you may find her on a tennis court or wake surfing.
Katie Beyoglides
Secretary & Pro Shop Coordinator
With her passion for volleyball starting at 9 years old, Katie played at Sinclair Community College where she earned her associates and went on to get her bachelors in performing arts at the Savannah College of Art & Design. She continued playing competitive volleyball with hopes of competing at a higher level, which landed her on the Atlanta Flames! Outside of volleyball, you can catch her doing her grandma hobbies with her beloved cat, Nix.
Tiara Brown
Player Relations Coordinator
With nearly 20 years of volleyball experience, Tiara is a College of Coastal Georgia volleyball alumna and Public Affairs graduate. She currently serves as the Community & Events Director for Chick-fil-A Canton. When she’s not spending time with family or serving at church, you can usually find Tiara celebrating wins on and off the court.
Heaven Varner, M.S.
Community Outreach Coordinator
As a former Division I volleyball player at Georgia State University, Heaven is passionate about using athletics to connect and serve communities throughout Atlanta. Heaven holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Neuroscience and is currently a medical student at Morehouse School of Medicine. Her academic research focuses on the social determinants of health and the role of sports in expanding opportunities and creating meaningful community connections. In her free time, Heaven can usually be found studying for her next exam or back on the court playing volleyball!
Tim Walker
Coaching Coordinator
Walker is an experienced and lifelong Coach. Currently coaching at Life Univeristy, he has led the Running Eagles to a top-three SSAC conference finish and helped develop multiple postseason honorees.
His coaching excellence has earned national recognition, including the 2023 AVCA National Assistant Coach of the Year. Beyond collegiate athletics, Walker has coached with nationally top-ranked A5 Volleyball Club, developing elite athletes throughout the Southeast. He is also a recipient of the 2020 AVCA Diversity Award, recognizing his commitment to diversity and inclusion in athletics.
